The Shadow

The Shadow explores the encounter with the parts of ourselves that remain hidden — the instincts, fears and desires that exist beneath conscious awareness.

A woman appears suspended within an intensely surreal, violet landscape, her body caught in a moment of movement as a serpent reaches toward her face. The serpent becomes both presence and symbol: an embodiment of temptation, danger, instinct and transformation. Its proximity to the woman creates an intimate tension between attraction and confrontation, suggesting that what we fear may also contain something we need to understand.

The violent magenta and violet atmosphere amplifies the dreamlike quality of the work, while the woman's flowing hair and dress dissolve into the surrounding energy. She appears to be neither fleeing from nor entirely surrendering to the serpent, but caught in the moment of facing it.

As part of The Crossing, The Shadow represents the inward crossing — the moment when we encounter what has been hidden within us and recognise that moving forward requires confronting, rather than escaping, our own shadow.
